Town of New Tecumseth Receives Fire Protection Grant
NEW TECUMSETH, ON – The Town of New Tecumseth is proud to announce it has been awarded a $48,000 Fire Protection Grant from the province of Ontario. Testing was completed on 1 goose at the Tottenham Pond and confirmed Avian Influenza; it’s likely the other 15 geese reported died from Avian Influenza as well. The risk to the general public remains low.

News Release - Avian Influenza Confirmed at Tottenham Conservation Area
NEW TECUMSETH, ON – The Town of New Tecumseth has been advised by the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) that Avian Influenza has been confirmed in a dead Canadian goose found at the Tottenham Pond within the Tottenham Conservation Area.
The Town is working closely with CWHC to monitor the affected area. Residents are strongly advised to avoid ponds and waterfowl habitats at this time.

Thank you to those who reported a presence of deceased geese at the Tottenham Conservation Area. The Town of New Tecumseth is working with the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) and Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) on appropriate next steps. A sample collected from the Tottenham Pond has been delivered to CWHC for analysis, with results pending. We will continue to work with the NVCA and CWHC and provide updates on our official channels.
