The Town of New Tecumseth is investing in important road and sidewalk improvements to create smoother roads, improve accessibility, and enhance safety for everyone using these downtown streets.
Fermar Paving Ltd., on behalf of the Town, will be completing resurfacing work on:
- Victoria Street from Industrial Road to King Street North
- King Street from Victoria Street West to Young Street
- Young Street from King Street South to 208 Young Street
Construction Schedule
Concrete and sidewalk work is anticipated to take place throughout the summer, with paving operations expected to begin following the Alliston Potato Festival in August.

What to Expect
Work will be completed in several phases:
Replacement of select damaged curbs, gutters and sidewalks
Accessibility improvements at select intersections and crossings
Repairs and adjustments to catch basins and maintenance hole covers
Roadway preparation and localized repairs
Removal of the existing asphalt surface
Placement of a new asphalt surface to provide a smoother and safer roadway
Installation of pavement markings, crosswalk markings and parking stall markings
Project clean-up and final inspections
Traffic and Access
The Town and contractor will work to minimize disruptions throughout construction.
- One lane of traffic will remain open during working hours.
- Two lanes of traffic will be available during non-working hours.
- Safe pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project.
- Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained whenever possible.
- Temporary driveway disruptions may occur and affected property owners will receive advance notice.
- Emergency services access will be maintained at all times.
- To help complete the work safely and efficiently while minimizing impacts to daytime traffic, paving activities will be scheduled overnight.

Why is this project being completed?
The project will improve road conditions, enhance pedestrian safety, upgrade accessibility features, repair aging infrastructure, and extend the lifespan of these important downtown roads. It will also include targeted improvements to sidewalks, curbs, and drainage infrastructure.
Where is the work taking place?
Construction will occur on:
- Victoria Street from Industrial Road to King Street North
- King Street from Victoria Street West to Young Street

When will construction begin?
Construction is expected to begin during the summer of 2026. Concrete and sidewalk repairs are anticipated to take place throughout the summer, with major paving operations expected to begin after the Alliston Potato Festival in August.
When will the project be completed?
The Town anticipates the project will be substantially completed by September 30, 2026, weather permitting.
Will roads remain open during construction?
Yes. One lane of traffic will be maintained during working hours. Outside of working hours, two lanes of traffic will generally be available.
Will businesses remain open?
Yes. Access to local businesses will be maintained whenever possible throughout construction. Customers are encouraged to continue supporting downtown businesses during the project.
Will I still be able to access my driveway?
Most driveway access will be maintained; however, temporary disruptions may be required during curb, sidewalk, or paving work. Residents and property owners will receive advance notice whenever access restrictions are expected.
Will sidewalks remain open?
Safe pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project. Temporary sidewalk detours may be required in active work areas and will be clearly signed.
Why are accessibility upgrades being included?
The project includes upgrades to select intersections and sidewalks to improve accessibility and help meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements. These improvements make travel safer and easier for all users.
Will there be overnight work?
Paving activities will take place overnight. Overnight work allows crews to complete resurfacing more efficiently, improve worker safety, reduce the overall construction timeline, and minimize impacts on daytime traffic. The tender also allows temporary overnight road closures to facilitate paving operations.
Will there be noise during construction?
Residents and businesses can expect periodic construction-related noise from equipment, milling operations, concrete work, and paving activities. Every effort will be made to complete the work as efficiently as possible. Overnight paving operations may result in temporary increases in noise levels.
How will residents know when work is happening nearby?
The contractor will provide advance notice of activities that may impact driveway access or property access. Portable message boards and construction signage will also be installed throughout the project area to inform motorists, pedestrians, residents, and businesses about upcoming work.
Will emergency services still have access?
Yes. The contractor is required to coordinate with emergency services and maintain access for police, fire, and ambulance services throughout construction.
How will trees be protected during construction?
The project includes tree protection measures, including arborist assessments and tree preservation plans where required. Protective fencing and other safeguards will be installed to help prevent damage to trees near construction activities.
Will parking be affected?
Temporary restrictions to on-street parking may be necessary during construction. Any affected parking areas will be signed in advance. Existing parking stall markings will be restored as part of the final phase of the project.
What should I do when travelling through the construction zone?
Please slow down, follow all posted construction signs, watch for workers and equipment, and use caution when driving, cycling, or walking through the work area. This helps keep everyone safe and supports the timely completion of the project.
