The Town is enhancing the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) experience within New Tecumseth by installing new wayfinding and safety signage along the trail network. These improvements are designed to help residents and visitors navigate the trail more easily, access important information, and improve safety for all trail users.
The project includes three types of signage:
Trailhead Signs
Large trailhead signs will be installed at both ends of the trail:
- The north end for users entering from Cookstown
- The south end for users entering from Caledon
Additional smaller trailhead signs will be placed at popular entry points along the trail.
These signs will feature:
- A map of New Tecumseth and the Trans Canada Trail
- Parking locations
- Bench and bicycle repair station locations
- Trail grades and steep sections
- User etiquette information
- GPS coordinates and emergency contact information
Directional Wayfinding Signs
Directional signs are being installed to help users navigate the roadway connection between two existing sections of the Trans Canada Trail near Beeton.
Located along Side Road 10 and 10th Line, these signs will guide trail users travelling between:
- The current trail terminus on Side Road 10
- The trail section beginning on 10th Line and continuing south to Lilly Street West
Safety and Emergency Signage
Kilometre markers are being installed along the full length of the trail within New Tecumseth. These markers help users identify their location and provide accurate information to emergency responders if assistance is needed.
Additional map signs will be installed at major roadway crossings to help emergency personnel quickly locate trail users during emergency situations.
Signage is being installed along the Trans Canada Trail within New Tecumseth. Municipalities across Canada are responsible for installing and maintaining signage on the sections of the Trans Canada Trail that pass through their communities.
Installation of the new signage has already begun and is expected to be completed by November 1, 2026.
This initiative supports recommendations identified in the Parks, Trails and Open Spaces Master Plan (2024). The new signage will create a safer, more accessible, and user-friendly trail experience by improving navigation, providing helpful trail information, and supporting emergency response efforts.
The project will:
- Make it easier for residents and visitors to navigate the trail network
- Improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and other trail users
- Help emergency services respond more quickly when assistance is needed
- Provide clear information about trail amenities and points of interest
- Enhance the overall user experience on the Trans Canada Trail
- Encourage greater use and enjoyment of one of New Tecumseth’s key recreational assets
