The Town of New Tecumseth has hired Triton Engineering Services to provide contract administration for the construction of a Level 2 Type B pedestrian crossover at the following five locations:
- Main Street and Centre Street in Beeton
- Mill Street East and McGahey Street in Tottenham
- Mill Street East and McCurdy Drive in Tottenham
- Queen Street South and Rogers Road in Tottenham
- Boyne Street and John W Taylor Avenue in Alliston

The work includes concrete sidewalk with tactile walking surface indicators, concrete curb and gutter, curb bump-outs (at Main Street & Centre Street), a pedestrian crosswalk, pedestrian crossover signage and beacons, pedestrian pushbuttons, streetlighting, storm sewer infrastructure (at Main Street & Centre Street), restoration, and all other work necessary to complete the project.
The Contractor anticipates works to commence during the week of June 29th, 2026, with project completion by August 14th, 2026, weather permitting.
The subject roads will remain open to traffic during the construction with lane reductions facilitated by the contractor to accommodate the work. A single day road closure may be required on Centre Street South Beeton. Additional notice will be provided prior to the road closure if required. Signs will be put up before construction starts, and detour routes will be marked to help pedestrians get around the closure.
Community Impact
Residents can expect some delays and inconveniences during this period. The Town respectfully asks for cooperation and patience to ensure the project is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Work will take place between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. In the event of extreme or emergency situations, work may take place after hours and/or on weekends and only with the Town’s approval. Advance notice of any change in work hours will be provided where possible.
Pedestrians will be provided with a clear, safe pathway through the Work. Whenever a sidewalk is closed to accommodate the work, the Contractor will install a pedestrian detour with appropriate signage to direct pedestrians around the work zone accordingly.
You may experience dust, noise, and other inconveniences. Every effort will be made to reduce and mitigate the impacts.
Additionally, driveway access may be disrupted from time to time for those properties directly facing the work zone. As required, on-site personnel will coordinate driveway disruptions/closures with residents to minimize the length of closure and to ensure alternate parking arrangements are made. Residents that require special accommodations that could be adversely affected by driveway access interruptions are asked to contact the Town Project Manager identified within this Notice as soon as possible.
No tree removals are planned for this work. Tree pruning of branches under the supervision of a Certified Arborist may be required to provide sightlines to the PXO signage. If any private trees require pruning, additional notices will be provided to the property owners.
It should be noted that tree protection fences will also be installed around trees that are in close proximity to the construction area.
Please have your waste and recycling bins out at the end of your driveway prior to 7:00 a.m. on your regularly scheduled pick-up day. The Contractor will relocate the bins as necessary to enable the County of Simcoe’s solid waste contractors to gain access to them. We ask that you label your municipal address on all bins to assist us in returning them.
Telephone, electrical, cable TV, and gas services should not be affected by the construction, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

The Contractor will not be responsible for damages to any privately owned items on Town property. Property owners should remove items located within Town right-of-way such as landscaping and/or decorative objects. If you have a sprinkler system located in close proximity to the Town property limits, please contact the Town Project Manager or Project Consultant Representative identified within this Notice.
Construction involves the use of heavy equipment and the unavoidable creation of obstacles. These circumstances are often attractive to children, and as such, we ask that you please caution your children to stay clear of the construction work zone.
While the contractor is required to conduct the work in a safe manner, we ask that you please take extra caution during the construction period as an additional measure.
• If the crossover has flashing lights, push the button to activate the lights so drivers know you want to cross
• Make eye contact with drivers so they see you before you cross
• Make sure all vehicles have stopped before you cross
• Walk your bike across the road
• Slow down and look for pedestrians, especially when turning
• Stop behind the painted white triangles (yield line) when a pedestrian is approaching the crossing, waiting at either side of the crossing, or actively crossing the road
• Wait for pedestrians to clear the entire width of the roadway before proceeding. This is a legal requirement at pedestrian crossovers under the Highway Traffic Act.
• Be patient especially with seniors or pedestrians with disabilities who need more time to cross the road
• Don’t pass other stopped vehicles
If you do not stop completely for pedestrians at a crossover, you can be fined up to $1,000 and issued four demerit points on your driver’s licence. Please refer to the MTO’s webpage for additional information regarding pedestrian crossovers.
