New Alliston Water Storage Tank
P24-02 Engineering, Planning and Project Management Services for the New Alliston Water Storage Tank
Background
The Town of New Tecumseth takes care of the planning, design, building, running, and fixing of the water systems in its area. The Town has three connected drinking water systems, one for each of the three main areas: Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham. In 2016, the Town made a plan to figure out what upgrades were needed to make sure there was enough water and to handle growth and more water use. This plan is called the Water Supply, Distribution, and Storage Master Plan (WMP) and can be found on the Town's website. The plan showed that more elevated water storage is needed.
Scope of Work
In 2024, the Town hired CIMA+ to work on project P24-02. This project is about planning and managing the building of a new elevated water storage tank in Alliston. The project includes doing a study called a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA), designing the tank, and helping with the bidding process.
The MCEA study will help plan for the new water tank in Alliston. This tank will store drinking water to meet future needs, fix storage shortages, and improve water flow for firefighting in new industrial areas. More storage is needed to balance the system, provide water for emergencies, and make the system work better while using less energy. The MCEA will find the best place for the new tank by looking at technical, financial, social, and environmental factors. Other studies will also be done to help choose the best site.
This study follows the rules for Schedule ‘B’ projects under the MCEA process, which is approved by the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The project team will talk to the public, review agencies, Indigenous Communities, and other interested groups during the study. There will be a Public Information Centre (PIC) as part of this study.
