Supply Wells |
The Town of New Tecumseth relies on 10 wells and a transmission main from Collingwood to supply water to our community. These wells tap into underground sources known as aquifers. With depths ranging from 17 to 61 meters, the wells are spread across nine locations in and around the Alliston area. Combined, they can pump up to approximately 15 million liters of water per day into the town's water system.
How They Work
Each well is equipped with pumps that draw water from the aquifers and transfer it to nearby water treatment facilities. To ensure continuous operation during power outages, our wells have backup generators. These wells provide The Town of New Tecumseth with a safe and reliable water source.

Treatment |
How it Works
The Town uses a combination of sodium hypochlorite (liquid chlorine) and sodium silicate to ensure disinfection of the water and provide an aesthetically pleasing quality. The chlorine also provides a lasting disinfection to maintain water safety after it leaves the treatment facilities (secondary disinfection).

Storage Reservoirs |
How They Work
The Town of New Tecumseth's water system includes four water storage reservoirs with a total capacity of 15.9 million liters. This consists of two elevated storage tanks and two grade-level reservoirs with pumps.

Flushing Hot Water Tanks |
Due to the characteristics of water, periodic maintenance of your system is required. When water is heated, it has the tendency to leave iron deposits in the bottom of your hot water tank. Therefore, it is recommended that periodic flushing of your hot water tank be carried out, in order to avoid brown/yellow/orange water.
Please Follow the Steps Below to Flush Your Hot Water Tank:
