Simulated hazmat emergency exercise to take place September 25 in New Tecumseth

Midhurst/September 19, 2025 – The County of Simcoe and Town of New Tecumseth are advising the community of Alliston that there will be a staged emergency exercise on September 25, 2025 at the CPKC Spence Pre-Tripping Facility, located just west of the 11th Line and Tottenham Road intersection near Alliston. This exercise will help emergency personnel learn, practice, and test the coordination of emergency services on scene in the context of a chemical leak originating from a rail car.

During this time, the community may see non-toxic coloured smoke in the area, and additional emergency vehicles and personnel in hazmat suits present through this planned training event. The town Emergency Operations Centre will be activated for this simulation, and the response will include the County’s Emergency Management personnel, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services, New Tecumseth Fire Rescue, Barrie Fire HazMat Team, OPP, and staff from CPKC Railway.

Media and the public are asked to refrain from engaging with personnel while they participate in this training exercise.
