Changes to Automated Speed Enforcement Under Bill 56
NEW TECUMSETH, ON – The Province of Ontario has passed Bill 56 – Building a More Competitive Economy Act, 2025, which includes significant changes to the Highway Traffic Act affecting the use of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras.
Effective November 14, 2025, municipalities will no longer be authorized to operate ASE cameras in school zones or community safety zones. Any speeding infractions captured prior to November 14 will be processed.
“While the ASE program is concluding, our priority remains the safety within our school zones and neighbourhoods,” said Mayor Richard Norcross. “We look forward to collaborating with the Province on new traffic-calming initiatives that will continue to create a safe environment for all.”
