Town of New Tecumseth Celebrates Groundbreaking of New Stevenson Memorial Hospital Facility

NEW TECUMSETH, ON – The Town of New Tecumseth is celebrating a significant milestone in local health care as construction officially begins on the new expanded facility at Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH). The milestone was marked today with a ceremonial groundbreaking alongside project partners, provincial representatives, and community leaders.

“This is a proud and meaningful day for New Tecumseth,” said New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross. “The start of construction on this new hospital facility reflects years of collaboration and advocacy, and we are sincerely grateful to the Province of Ontario for its leadership and investment. This project strengthens local health care and supports the patients, families, and health care professionals who depend on Stevenson Memorial Hospital every day.”

The new hospital facility will be constructed on the existing hospital property and will significantly enhance health care services for residents across New Tecumseth and surrounding communities. Construction is expected to continue over the coming years, with completion anticipated by late 2028.

“The state-of-the-art facility will increase patient bed capacity by 20 per cent, will feature all single-occupancy patient rooms, and will be equipped with modern technology and equipment to support exceptional health care services delivered by our dedicated staff and physicians,” said Carmine Stumpo, Supervisor, Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

The Town of New Tecumseth recognizes the efforts of Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Infrastructure Ontario, the provincial government, and community partners whose commitment has helped move this transformative project forward and looks ahead to the lasting benefits this new facility will bring to the health and well-being of New Tecumseth residents.
