News Release - Province Invests $12.5M in Alliston Wastewater Clarifier Upgrades

News Release Date: January 16, 2026

NEW TECUMSETH, ON – The Town of New Tecumseth is pleased to share that on January 16, 2026, MPP Brian Saunderson announced provincial approval and funding of up to $12,527,165 for the Alliston Wastewater Treatment Plant Clarifier Rehabilitation through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream.

The clarifiers at the Alliston Wastewater Treatment Plant are essential to effective wastewater treatment and to protecting both public health and the natural environment. Like many municipalities, New Tecumseth is managing aging infrastructure, and this rehabilitation work is vital to ensure the system continues to operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with environmental standards.

“This investment supports one of the most critical components of our Town’s wastewater system,” said Mayor Richard Norcross. “As a community, we rely on resilient infrastructure every day, and I’m grateful to the Province and to MPP Saunderson for their support.”

“This provincial investment will help ensure Alliston’s wastewater system can increase operational capacity and improve treatment effectiveness, supporting both current needs and future growth,” said MPP Saunderson.

The funding allows the Town to proactively address risk, reduce the potential for costly failures, and maintain the infrastructure capacity needed to support the community today as well as the growth expected in the years ahead.
