Day Camps

The Town of New Tecumseth provides day camp for children aged 5-11 years. The 2021 day camp session will run from July 5th to August 27th, 2021.

Our vision within Recreation programs is to be a leader and valued partner in building a healthy community.  All day camps are designed to build campers imagination, curiosity, creativity, self-esteem, and confidence.

The health and safety of our campers and staff are of paramount importance. We will be strictly adhering to the current Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit guidelines in conjunction with complete guidance provided in the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Guidance: Summer Day Camps.

Day Camp registration opens Monday, June 7th at 7:00am.

 Camp Hours of Operation

Day camps are offered daily Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Camp is offered throughout the summer at various locations; however, they do not run on Statutory Holidays or weekends.

Day Camp locations:

  • Museum on the Boyne (MOTB)

  • New Tecumseth Recreation Centre (NTRC)
  • Tottenham Community & Fitness Centre (TCFC)

 Camp Staff

Day Camp Co-ordinator, Senior Leads and Camp Counsellors.

Our camp staff are fun, energetic and personally invested in ensuring a successful camp experience for each camper!

You will take comfort in knowing that all of our summer staff have been through a thorough screening process including an interview, reference checks and criminal screening checks.

All staff are certified in First Aid & CPR-C and receive HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Training.

Our counselors undergo an extensive pre-camp training program which include topics such as program planning, understanding child behaviour, problem solving, emergency procedures, as well as practical experience such as leading games, crafts and songs!

 Extended Care Options

Whether you need to get somewhere early or need a little extra time at the end of the day, camp staff are on site to interact with campers. Extended care requires additional registration and has separate morning or afternoon options for each corresponding week.

Extended care is available daily from:

  • 7:30 am to 9:00 am 
  • 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Extended care rates are:

  • Before or After care: $27 per week
  • $5.50  fee will be charged for late pick up every 15 minutes 

Extended care is not available at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre or the Aqua Adventures Camp taking place at the Museum on the Boyne.

 Inclusion/1:1 Camper Support 

Campers of all abilities and/or special needs are welcome to participate in our summer camp programs. We are committed to providing positive accessible and inclusive experiences and recognize that some individuals require additional support in order to successfully participate.

Safety Measures - What to Expect 

Pursuant to the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020, regulations, day camps for children are permitted to open if they are operated in a manner consistent with the safety guidelines for COVID-19 for day camps produced by the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health.

 Accommodations include: 

  • Mandatory daily screening
  • Lower camper to leader ratios
  • Campers will be divided into smaller cohorts
  • Designated camp rooms for each cohort
  • Physical distancing requirements
  • Designated hand washing times and locations
  • Frequent sanitization of high touch points and equipment
  • Designated sign in/out locations – please respect signage at each location
  • Use of personal protection equipment for staff and campers
  • Increased outdoor programming (weather permitting)

All camp participants are required to wear well-fitting masks (e.g., non-medical), unless otherwise exempt.

Additional staff will be on site to ensure smaller groups/ratios which will help maintain physical distancing and appropriate supervision.

Summer Camp Welcome Package 

Camp is such a fun and exciting time. To make the most of your child's camp experience, we have created a Summer Camp Welcome Package to help best prepare for camp this season. Please look through the package as it will help ease you through the process and answer some common questions.

 What to Bring to Camp 
Items to bring daily:
  • A well fitting mask - example, non-medical mask unless otherwise exempt 
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Nut-free snacks and lunch
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Bathing suit and towel (where applicable)
  • Running shoes
  • An extra set of clothing

Make sure to write your child's name on all items. We donate lost and found items at the end of each week.

Leave at home:

  • Personal valuables
