Drainage Master Plan Study
Background Information
The Town of New Tecumseth has recently initiated Phase 2 of the town-wide Drainage Master Plan Study (DMP). This study will provide a long-term flood mitigation strategy to improve the Town’s drainage system and reduce flood risks to property, public safety, and the environment. The DMP builds upon the Town’s Official Plan and is being completed in accordance with Provincial plans and policies. The study is being completed in two phases.
The Phase 1 Study focused on modelling existing drainage within the riverine system to identify flood risks and recommend areas of focus for Phase 2 of the DMP. Phase 1 of the DMP was completed in March 2020.
The current Phase 2 will refine the riverine flood model as recommended in Phase 1 and also develop a system-wide storm sewer model. These models will provide valuable tools for further assessing flood risk to inform the development and evaluation of flood mitigation alternative solutions. Phase 2 will culminate with recommended flood mitigation solutions and an implementation plan to prioritize capital works.
Study Approach
The Drainage Master Plan is being completed in accordance with Approach #2 of the Master Planning Process outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, amended in 2007, 2011, and 2015).
