Paid On Call Firefighters
Becoming a Paid On Call Firefighter is an excellent way to get involved and give back to your community. It also involves a significant time commitment to succeed in the recruit program (approximately 240 hours over the course of a year) and continuous dedication to maintain your skills and meet attendance expectations.
New Tecumseth Fire and Rescue aims to onboard a recruit class annually, accepting applications in June and kicking off the recruit program in October. Please watch for the job posting and apply through the ATS. Note: Required Ontario Fire Administration Inc (OFAI) candidate testing must be completed and valid at the time of application.
Eligibility requirements:
Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Successful completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Successful completion of candidate testing through Ontario Fire Administration Inc (OFAI): Stage One – Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (FACT) and Stage Three – Firefighter Physical Aptitude Job-Related Tests (FPAT). Testing must be current at the time of application to be considered.
Ability to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
Valid G class driver’s licence, and the ability to submit a clean driver’s abstract upon hire. Ability to obtain a DZ driver’s licence within 1 year of successfully completing probation.
Ability to pass a respirator fit test.
Must live in the community in order to respond to calls promptly. Please see catchment areas to determine which station to apply to.
Availability to meet and/or exceed department targets for training & responses.
Pre-recruitment Process - OFAI Candidate Testing
Candidates must successfully complete job-specific testing through Ontario Fire Administration Inc (OFAI) prior to applying. The 2 assessments required are:

Both stages/tests must be current at the time of application to an active posting. Pass/fail results will be verified by OFAI as part of the recruitment process.
Recruitment Process
Step 1: Apply Online
Submit your cover letter, resume, high school diploma, and any relevant certifications to the active job posting.
Step 2: Panel Interview
Pass/fail results of candidate testing will be verified by OFAI to determine eligibility to move forward to interviews. Candidates selected for interviews will be contacted via email to select a time slot online.
Step 3: Reference Checks
Candidates who successfully complete the interview stage will be asked to provide contact information for at least 2 references.
Step 4: Job Offer
Following satisfactory reference checks, candidates will be given an offer conditional upon:

Satisfactory Driver's Abstract
Proof of Address (Driver's Licence)
Step 5: Onboarding
Onboarding documents will be emailed and candidates must upload completed documents to their profile prior to their start date.
Probationary Firefighters will then begin their training outlined below in the recruit program.
Recruit Program
Probationary Firefighters will begin the 240 hour recruit program.
Weekly training will be scheduled on Monday nights and supplemental weekend sessions will be scheduled throughout.
Training will consist of independent reading material, in-person sessions, written tests, and practical assessments.
100% attendance is required during the training program.

Our Recruitment and Selection Process
Step 1: Apply online
All applications are received online through our Applicant Tracking System (ATS). To apply to one of our posted vacancies, please click the green "I am interested" button at the bottom of the job posting page. If this is your first time applying for a job with us you will need to create a profile first.
Please ensure you upload all required documents (i.e. cover letter, resume, copies of credentials) outlined in the posting at the time you apply.

Step 2: Interview/Job Testing
