Marriage Licence
Couples wishing to be married in Ontario need to complete a marriage licence application, which must be signed by both individuals.
The application form and copies of your identification must be sent in with your request. An appointment time for pick-up and payment of your marriage licence will be scheduled upon receipt of all documents.
Licence fee
The licence fee is $139.00, in accordance with our most recent Fees & Charges By-law. We accept cash, debit, Visa or Mastercard. We do not accept cheques.
Hours
We can issue licences Monday to Friday, between 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Expiry date
A marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of three months from the date of issue.
Bring two pieces of identification
We are required to examine original government-issued identification documents for both individuals (if only one individual is present, they must bring the other person's identification).
The identification consists of 2 pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification provided must be either your birth certificate (including any change of name certificate) or passport and the secondary must be another government-issued identification which includes your photo.
Examples of government-issued identification:
- Valid passport
- Record of immigrant landing
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Valid driver's licence
- Valid Ontario Photo Card
Divorces
If you are divorced, we need the original or a court certified copy of the Certificate of Divorce (Or Decree Absolute). We do not accept the Divorce Judgment. You can get a certified copy from the court that granted the divorce.
If you were divorced outside of Canada, you must get authorization from Service Ontario (see Requirements Respecting Marriage in Ontario) or visit Service Ontario for more information.
Last name
Make sure to use your legal surname when applying.
Address
If your mailing address is a P.O. Box, you'll need to include your actual street address. If you have a Rural Route Number (RR #), please provide your 911 addresses.
Place of marriage
Please state the municipal name where the marriage will take place.
Wedding officiants
A list of official wedding officiants is available at Service Ontario. An authorized official must marry you to ensure that your marriage is performed properly and legally.
Marriage ceremony
It is your responsibility to arrange the marriage ceremony of your choice. Marriage services are available in this office.
Civil ceremony
The office of the Clerk can provide civil marriage services (fee $280.00) with ceremonies conducted in the Council Chambers at the Town of New Tecumseth Administration Centre, 24 Tupper Street West., Alliston between 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Fridays (subject to availability).
Arrangements for ceremonies outside Town Hall and outside of regular hours can be arranged with the Clerk. The cost is $393.00.
A fee of $56.00 is charged for each witness. (if not supplied)
A fee of $56.00 is charged for an attendance at rehearsals.
