Proposed new Town Hall

In 2016, The Town of New Tecumseth purchased the former Alliston Union Public School facility and property located at 25 Albert Street West, Alliston, with the intention of repurposing the  school building into a new Town Hall. The Town currently operates out of 10 Wellington Street East, Alliston and has outgrown its current space of approximately 15,000 square feet.

Frequently asked questions 
Is there another opportunity for the community to talk to the project?

 Yes. The community will have another opportunity to talk to the proposed new Town Hall at a regular Committee of the Whole meeting when the Tender for the project is brought forward for Council's consideration, anticipated in June, 2021. 

Once the Committee of the Whole meeting date is determined for when the tender will come forward, residents who are interested in presenting new information, can submit a request to speak at: https://www.newtecumseth.ca/en/town-hall/speaking-before-council.aspx 

 How is the Town Hall going to be paid for?

Available Reserves                               $ 5.7M

Surplus Land/Property Sales                 $ 4.6M

Debt                                                   $ 9.0M         

 How will this impact taxes?
The relocated Administration Centre will not further impact taxes. The annual debt repayment requirement has  been accounted for within the existing tax levy and a small portion of the additional or new assessment (growth) each year.
 Is this compromising other projects?
No. Other municipal projects that have been identified in the Long-Term Financial Plan continue to move forward for Council's consideration as prioritized. 
 Other considerations for the proposed new Town Hall

The space available in the current administration building does not accommodate our staff or community needs. 

The new space will consolidate several departments under one roof for streamlined service to our residents/businesses/visitors and customers, for example the following departments will be housed under this one roof: building department, asset management department, Fire administration, Parks/Rec & Facilities administration.  This will eliminate the need for our customers to have to go to multiple buildings to fulfill a single task, for example getting and paying for a building permit. 

Eliminates the requirement to invest in repairs, maintenance, and retrofits of the Wellington St. Building – in the first draft of the 2021 budget was an allocated amount of $1.3M.  Additional investment would be required beyond this initial amount. 

When safe to do so, the Town Hall is a space available to the public for “Town Hall” meetings and congregations and celebrating events such as Citizen awards and Canada Day Celebrations.  It will have indoor and outdoor space to be used and appreciated by residents, downtown visitors, and business partners.
