Volunteer Firefighters

The Town of New Tecumseth receives and reviews applications for volunteer (part-time) firefighter positions during our Fall Recruitment Drive.  We generally post positions in the first week of August of each year.

As a firefighter for the Town, you will be required to perform various duties under emergency conditions that involve considerable hazard. You must be capable of functioning as part of a group and under adverse conditions. The work will also include routine duties including the maintenance of firefighting vehicles, equipment and fire department facilities.

You must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Close to the location of a Fire Station
  • Available to attend training sessions

We also require proof of the following:

  • Driver's Licence in good standing
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • No criminal or summary convictions that would adversely affect public trust

Preferred qualifications

  • DZ Licence with air brake endorsement, which is required to successfully complete probation
  • Previous firefighting experience
  • Education related to firefighting
  • Construction or building experience
  • Experience operating heavy equipment or driving commercial vehicles
  • Ability to respond during business hours

Once you join as a volunteer fire fighter, we will review your participation should your employment or residence change your availability and diminish your ability to respond to calls.
