The Town of New Tecumseth is inviting accredited postsecondary institutions to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to partner in the development and delivery of a Trades & Technology Training Centre in the community.
This initiative supports workforce development, addresses skilled trades shortages, and strengthens long term economic growth across New Tecumseth and the surrounding region.
The purpose of the Training Centre will be to:
- Deliver industry aligned, accredited training
- Support local employers in manufacturing, automotive, construction, agriculture, and emerging trades
- Strengthen local talent pipelines
- Provide accessible training opportunities close to home

Expressions of Interest must be submitted electronically in PDF format to the Town of New Tecumseth’s Growth and Innovation Department at ecdev@newtecumseth.ca, with the subject line “Proposal Submission – Trades & Technology Training Centre Partnership”, no later than May 1, 2026 at 5 PM.

Expression of InterestAn Expression of Interest (EOI) is an early, nonbinding process used to gather information and assess interest from potential partners.
Through this EOI, the Town is seeking input from accredited postsecondary institutions on:
- Their vision for a Trades & Technology Training Centre
- Collaboration approaches with the Town, Simcoe County, and industry
- Potential training models and program offerings
- Facility, funding, and implementation considerations
This EOI is not a procurement or construction tender. It is an information gathering step that will help inform future decisions, including potential partnerships and next phases of planning.
The EOI is open to accredited postsecondary institutions with experience delivering:
- Skilled trades training
- Applied technology programs
- Apprenticeship, pre apprenticeship, or diploma programs
Institutions should demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with municipal, county, and industry partners and align programming with regional workforce needs.
Following the submission deadline:
- The Town and key stakeholders will review all Expressions of Interest
- Selected institutions may be invited to participate in feedback interviews
- Information gathered will help determine next steps, including partnership models and feasibility study integration
The Town may choose to advance, modify, or conclude the process based on findings and available funding.
New Tecumseth and the broader region are experiencing skilled trades shortages, particularly in manufacturing, automotive, construction, and emerging trades. At the same time, the community is growing rapidly. This initiative is a proactive step to support employers, residents, and long term economic competitiveness.
Labour market pressures are being felt locally, provincially, and nationally. Acting now allows the Town to plan ahead, build local talent pipelines, and position New Tecumseth as a regional leader in skilled trades training.
No. There is no site selected at this stage. Site considerations would be explored through future planning and feasibility work.
The intent is a multi-trade focus, aligned with local industry needs. Areas of interest include manufacturing, automotive, construction, agriculture, and emerging trades. Final program offerings will be informed by partner proposals and feasibility findings.
The Town is exploring a partnership based training centre model, where an accredited institution delivers programming locally. Over time, and depending on demand, the model could scale or expand.
The project is envisioned as a shared investment, involving the Town, Simcoe County, industry partners, and potential grant funding. Any funding commitments would be subject to future approvals.
Formal public consultation has not yet occurred, as the project is in the early information gathering phase. Community engagement—including employers, school boards, and residents—is built into future phases of planning.
