Starting in April, the Town of New Tecumseth will be conducting routine watermain flushing in Tottenham as part of our regular water system maintenance program.
Watermain flushing helps maintain water quality by removing sediment and mineral buildup from the distribution system. This proactive maintenance supports the continued delivery of safe, reliable drinking water to the community.
What Residents May Notice
During flushing activities, residents may experience:
- Temporary discolouration of tap water
- Reduced water pressure
- Brief service interruptions
These conditions are normal and should be short‑lived. Discoloured water is safe to use for cleaning and flushing toilets but may not be suitable for drinking or laundry until it clears.
What You Can Do
- Avoid doing laundry while flushing is occurring in your area
- If discolouration occurs, run cold water from a tap for several minutes until it clears
- Check filters and remove them temporarily if needed
