Ice activities
Stick & Puck for Kids 9 & Under
Looking for a fun way to help your child build their hockey skills? This drop-in program is perfect for children aged 9 and under and their guardians! Together, you’ll work on the fundamentals—stick and puck handling, shooting, and skating—in a no contact, no scrimmage, and no game-play environment.

Public Skating
Our public skating sessions are the perfect way to enjoy the ice – no experience needed, just good vibes and fun with friends and family.

Skate helpers are available for use, on a first come first serve basis at each recreation centre during public skate times where a skate monitor is present.
- Always respect all members of the public and staff.
- The Public Respect & Responsibility Policy will be strictly enforced.
- Participants that have not checked in at Client Services or paid for programs are considered trespassing which will result in suspension of privileges and/or intervention by police.
- Individuals not adhering to the code of conduct will be asked to leave the facility and will not receive a refund.
- Staff may request to verify age with identification when checking in to an activity.
- Ice activities are not to be used for coaching/instructional/training/organized team use.
- CSA approved skate assists, sledges and wheelchairs are permitted on ice during open skate times.
- Skates are required to be worn on the ice surface during all scheduled ice activities.
- No strollers, chairs, or street shoes are permitted on the ice.
- CSA approved helmets are highly recommended during all skating activities.
- Children nine (9) years of age or younger, must have a parent/guardian (14 years of age and
- older) remain within view of the ice.
- Children nine (9) years of age or younger without a parent/guardian (14 years of age andolder) will be denied entry.
- Entry is granted based on occupancy limits for each activity on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Food and drink are not permitted on the ice surface.
- Carrying infants on the ice is not allowed.
- Skate with the direction of all skaters.
- No skating backwards during public skating times.
- Hockey drills are not permitted during public skates.
- No horseplay/games/foul language.
- Refrain from throwing objects on the ice.
- No headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are to be used while skating.
- No sitting on the boards.
- No one is permitted on the ice during resurfacing. Olympia/Zamboni doors must be closed before entering the ice after resurfacing is complete.
The Public Respect & Responsibility Policy will be enforced and all incidents will be reported and followed up with which may result in you being asked to vacate the facility without a refund and future visits may be affected. . Please respect all members of the public and staff at all times.
At any given time, the number of skaters on the ice may be limited due to the following restrictions:
“Skating” options – max 60 people per time/ per monitor, up to a maximum 180 persons.
“Shinny” options – max 20 people per time + 2 goalies or 4 with a rotation.
- Entry is granted on a first come first served basis.
- Payment for ice activities will be accepted 60 minutes prior to the activity start time.
- A wristband will be issued to all participants at time of payment and must be fastened to the participants wrist as you may be asked at any time during your activity to present proof of payment. If you do not provide proof of payment, you may be asked to exit the ice and be refused future ice time.
Shinny Hockey
Grab your gear and hit the ice! Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just looking for some fun, our Shinny Drop-In sessions are open to all ages and skill levels.

All shinny participants must adhere to skating code of conduct listed above in addition the the items listed below:
- Full hockey equipment is strongly recommended.
- CSA approved hockey helmet and hockey gloves are mandatory.
- Be aware that hockey nets will be on the ice.
- Shinny fees apply to all players according to age.
- Goalies are admitted free of charge up to a maximum of four (4) per time frame.
- Play must be kept safe, fair, and fun and play must be adjusted to the skill level of all players on the ice surface.
- Skate aids are NOT permitted during shinny times.

Outdoor Rinks
The outdoor rinks are situated along side the Tottenham Community & Fitness Centre in Tottenham, Riverdale Park on Doner Diamond in Alliston, and Beeton Community Park in Beeton.
After a great winter season the outdoor rinks are now closed. Please check the program drop-in times for the Tottenham & Fitness Centre outdoor arena and floor activities that will be available soon. As always they are weather pending.
As per our Park By-law, all New Tecumseth parks are closed from 11 PM to 5 AM, but you can enjoy the outdoor rinks in Beeton and Alliston from dawn until 10:30 PM, when the lights go off.
The Tottenham Community Centre outdoor rink is open Monday to Friday 8am – 10pm and Saturday & Sundays 9am -10pm. Please follow the assigned drop-in activities for the Tottenham Community Centre outdoor rink.
Please note: Maintenance periods vary with the snowfall and winter maintenance.
- Public Skating and Pond Hockey are free activities on the Outdoor Rink.
- A maximum of 50 participants will be permitted on the ice at any given time. Please rotate skaters for pond hockey.
- Participants will be granted access on a first come, first serve basis adhering to the posted outdoor rink schedule.
- Dressing rooms are closed.
- Washroom facilities are available for use inside the Tottenham Community Centre.
- Please note, the outdoor rink could be monitored to ensure participant numbers are not exceeded.
- CSA approved helmets are mandatory during all pond hockey times and all ice times for minors (Under 18yrs).
- Sticks and pucks are not permitted during public skate times.
- Those not following the above guidelines will be asked to leave and may be denied reentry for the remainder of the season.

- Pond Hockey: Sticks and pucks are permitted during these set times. Play fair and with all skill levels of participants on the ice. Please follow the age limits noted on the schedule. Adult not permitted on the ice during Child or Youth Pond Hockey times. Please attend during Family Pond Hockey time.
- Rentals: Ice is closed to the public during this time. If there are no scheduled rentals, the previously scheduled drop-in will continue to be available to the public. However after 8:15pm Adult Pond Hockey will be available to the public. Ice bookings will not be updated online and could change at any time.
- ICE FLOODS: are not always scheduled and will occur at the discretion of staff on duty. Floods are not guaranteed before pond hockey or public skating times.
- Outdoor rink may be closed without notice due to unsafe or poor weather conditions.
- Please report injuries or incidents to staff on duty or call Customer Service staff at 705-435-3900 option 2.
- Use of alcohol or drugs is prohibited and will be reported to the police.
It is recommended to check the Town of New Tecumseth website or to call Client Services at 705-435-3900 option 2, before you visit the facility to receive ice rink closure information. Always remember to scan the QR code on the schedules prior to arriving to skate.

Saturdays & Sundays: 11:15am, 12:15pm, 2:45pm, 3:45pm, 8:15pm, 9:15pm

Whether you’re planning ahead or making a last-minute decision, Book and Go programs make participation easy. With our hybrid registration model, you can sign up online or in person at the Client Service Desk when you arrive.

Hybrid registration is available at both the Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre, and the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre, giving you even more flexibility.
Please note: The Alliston Memorial Arena does not have a Client Service Desk. For any programs at this location, you must pre-register online in advance.
1. General Guidelines
Upon arriving at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre and the Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre, please check in with Client Services to register and pay for your activity, or to be attended to an activity you have already pre-registered for. Upon arriving to the Alliston Memorial Arena, please ensure that you have pre-registered for your Book and Go program in advance, as there is no Client Service desk. A monitor or instructor will be on-site to verify registration.
1.1 Please Note: All scheduled activities are subject to change.
1.2 Book and Go Sport Activity Categories:
Please Note: The Town of New Tecumseth is committed to providing recreational activities that prioritize inclusivity and community building, favouring accessibility and engagement over competition. The Town of New Tecumseth offers two categories of game play; however, participation in either is self-directed and up to the individual.
- Recreational Game Play: Offers open play for more experienced players seeking gameplay to push their abilities. Less experienced players are encouraged to try Social Game Play first.
- Social Game Play: This category welcomes beginner level participants to develop their skills in a fun and engaging environment. Open to individuals 10 and above, it promotes intergenerational play, fostering meaningful connections and shared experiences across age-groups.
1.3 Book and Go Age Categories
Please Note: Residents ages 10 and above do not require supervision of an adult while participating. Only individuals that fall within the age category of a particular Book and Go program will be permitted to play.
- Preschool, Child and Guardian | 0 – 9 years
- Junior Youth | 10-13 years
- Senior Youth | 14-17 years
- Adult | 18+
- Older Adult | 60+ years
1.4 Book and Go Single-booking Session Length
Please Note: All Book and Go programs are offered as single bookings and run for one and a half hours. Adaptive Book and Go programs, designed to enhance accessibility and promote equitable participation, are extended to two hours in duration.
2. General Rules
- When visiting the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre and the Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre, all participants must check-in at the Client Service desk before being granted admittance to the activity area.
- When visiting the Alliston Memorial Arena, all participants must check-in with a Program Monitor or Fitness Instructor to verify registration, before being granted admittance to the activity area.
- All participants must arrive dressed in clean and appropriate clothing for the corresponding activity, including clean, non-slip, indoor athletic shoes.
- There are to be no spectators for any Book and Go activity, except for Preschool, Child and Guardian programs, where an adult must be present with any child under the age of 10.
- There are to be no food or drinks, except for spill proof water bottles inside the activity area.
- There are to be no outside speakers or music played on any personal device within the activity area.
- Patrons are responsible for the safety and security of their own items at all times.
2.1 Assumption of Risk in General Activities
Please note: Patrons accept the assumption of risk that follows participation in general activities, including but not limited to injuries from equipment, falls, overexertion, musculoskeletal injuries, and cardiac events. Please follow all posted rules and guidelines and engage in all activities in a safe and responsible manner.
2.1 Public Respect and Accountability Policy
Please note: Confrontational behaviour, harassment, inappropriate use, or the defacing and destruction of Town equipment and infrastructure will not be tolerated. To report incidents that violate our policy, complete the Public Respect and Responsibility Incident Report online.
Our Book and Go programs are thoughtfully organized by age and skill level, taking into account the natural progression of development.

Book & Go – Frequently Asked Questions
A public education initiative has been launched to help the community navigate self-registration and payment for the AMA pilot program. Residents can attend a session to engage with staff and learn how to create an account, register for programs, and process payments.
Additionally, Client Services will remain at the Alliston Memorial Arena from July 2 to July 8 to assist with public education. Technology will be available for public use during this period, with oversight provided by a Client Service Associate.
Additional technology will be available as needed, ensuring accessibility for all participants. In cases where individuals lack access to technology or require assistance due to limited technological literacy, they are welcome to call into Client Services (705.435.3900 option 2) to register or may attend to another recreation centre to register for programs up to 6 days in advance.
