Residents, visitors and workers in the Town of New Tecumseth abide by our Town’s Noise Control By-law, which regulates and prohibits noise that could become public nuisances.

Our Municipal Law Enforcement responds to noise complaints and inquiries.

Residential Related Noise

If you are experiencing clearly audible, unwanted and persistent noise in a residential area, you can contact Municipal Law Enforcement to make a complaint at all times of the day or night.

Our Noise Control By-law outlines the activities that are regulated and prohibited in Schedule A. This includes:

  • Loudspeakers, amplifiers and electronic devices
  • Stereos in a building, structure or motor vehicle
  • Construction or maintenance equipment
  • Lack of muffler or tires squealing on a motor vehicle

  • Air conditioner, water pump, pool pump or filter or heat pump that is not in proper working order
  • Bells, horns, yelling and shouting
  • Explosives detonation

Residential Tenancies Act

If you are a tenant and a neighbouring tenant in the same building is causing disturbing noise, contact your landlord to make a complaint. The Residential Tenancies Act gives all tenants the right to reasonable enjoyment in their homes without noise distractions.

Construction Related Noise

If you are performing construction on your home or as part of a project build in the town, you must abide by the Town of New Tecumseth’s Noise Control By-law. Schedule B provides information on permitted times for construction activity and Schedule C provides activities that are exempted from the by-law.

You must inform the Town of your expected times of construction through the permitting process of any new build.

If you are hearing construction related noise that is causing a nuisance beyond the permitted times of construction, you can make a complaint to our Municipal Law Enforcement Department.
